MEET THE ARTIST: Karen Sawyer (Pier Six Press)

1. What inspires you about Bremerton?

A: I grew up in Bremerton; it has a totally different vibe than it did in the 90's. Bremerton is a welcoming art scene where people are excited to get involved and work with new faces. It's a place where innovative art and ideas can be tested. There's accessibility for artists and makers. The city is still small enough that if you have an idea, the channels to have it come to fruition are not hard to find.

2. What drew you to your medium?

A: Finding printmaking was one of those things that just clicked for me. It was like finally arriving home. I love that by nature, it creates multiple pieces; making it a shareable medium. Now I've been doing it long enough, I'm hardwired to think like a printmaker. Whenever I'm creating something whether digital or not - it goes through my mind - could this be rendered as a print?
