Heyo! Meet Erica Applewhite pictured here in her home studio in the one and only Bremerton!
Q: What inspires you about Bremerton?
A: Bremerton inspires me daily even as I step out my door. My neighborhood downtown is diverse ethnically, culturally, politically and the people are quirky and unique. The homes are mostly older with character and built in bungalow-ish style. We live on a corner and see a parade of all manner of people (and animals too!), both residents and those just passing through. I could write volumes of short stories just on the stuff that goes by or happens out our windows. Of course I also delight in walking downtown, the parks, the marina and Manette, kayaking the local waterways, and spending time with great friends in the area.
Q: Where do you find inspiration?
A: For my artwork as a printmaker and painter, I find inspiration in trees, plants, flowers, water, mountains, animals, people, boats, local landmarks and iconography, and even in common household objects, food or clothes. I am drawn to line work and bold colors and delight in the quirky and slightly off-beat or whimsical. I'm also fond of a good play on words and dabble from time to time in merging imagery from the above list with current events or the latest news cycle. Artists I admire are Emily Carr, Tom Thomson, Max Grover, John Cole, Jacob Lawrence and Liz Climo,

A: To view my public art drive toward downtown Bremerton on the Manette Bridge and you'll see my Ferry panel straight ahead of you as you stop at the light at Washington Ave. Drive a few more blocks to Dr. ML King Way between Pacific and Park Ave. to see my "Octomural."
