Joe Koski - Rogue Gorilla
Take a minute and get to know Rogue Gorilla!
Q: What inspires you about Bremerton?
A: What inspires me about Bremerton is how beautiful the PNW is. Pine trees that sit right by the water on overcast days??? It doesn’t get prettier. And then you’ve got all these independent breweries, coffee, bakeries, artisans...I love that it’s all here to be discovered.
Q: What drew you to your medium?
A: All through school I would just draw/doodle on the back of my assignment, my books, the desk, etc. So, once I started attempting an earnest shot at being an artist, my first instinct was to continue pen on paper, so for a long time that meant sharpies on white paper. I just continued doing what I did when I was practicing art in class! I recently got an iPad and while that’s inspired me to add more color to my art, my goal is to create the same feel as I’ve always had in my artwork.
Q: Where do you find inspiration?
A: I find inspiration from lots of things! Old 90s comic books, punk rock music/flyers/art, skateboarding with my kids, watching Gilmore Girls with my wife, and enormous amounts of (decaf) coffee.
Q: What does your perfect First Friday look like?
A: I already had my perfect first Friday!!! My son went to a first friday where we were able to both draw with chalk on the sidewalk, we got to know the local artist @Fro-yla, and we stumbled onto the tri-tip being cooked up at the local brewery. He and I then got to spend the rest of the evening hanging out, talking about punk rock and art and walking across the Mannette Bridge. It was one of my all time favorite nights and memories. I love that guy. If I can get more nights like that, I’ll take it!
6. Where can we find more of your art?
6. You can find more of my art in a few places! IG, of course, is a good place to check out what I do @roguegorilla . A more fun answer is that you can check out this rad collaboration I was really excited to do with the cool cats over at @fingersdukeapparel on their website, or check out my web-store for t-shirts hosted by @storefrontier. Please, check all of it out!!! I’m always flattered when anyone enjoys my artwork.
