David Albright
Get to know artist David Albright, a local photographer and videographer.
Q: What drew you to your medium?
A: I was drawn to photo and video because I tend to be more of an observer than a creator. I don't typically like to make something entirely from scratch - I’m more likely to see things in the world around me and my contribution is in the way I interpret, record, or present it in perhaps unexpected ways.
Q: What is your favorite local spot?
A: I love Lower Roto Vista Park. It’s this little non-descript patch of grass that’s small and tucked away – but then at the same time the huge concrete columns of the Warren Ave Bridge tower overhead and it’s a super narrow part of the Port Washington Narrows so the water always seems to be whipping by, in or out with the tides, so it gives the sense that you’re close to things that are big and powerful. Something about all that combined makes it feel really peaceful there.
Q: Where do you find inspiration?
A: I find inspiration in the every day things. The routines and artifacts of every day life - or the spaces we move through on our way to someplace else. I think as a culture we put a lot of focus on the extraordinary parts of life but I’ve always been more drawn to the ordinary.
Q: Where can we find more of your art?
A: My book Urban Bremerton is available at Ballast Books downtown, The Weekender in Manette, or a bunch of other stores around the Puget Sound area. Find the full list at UrbanBremerton.com/book See more at @urban_bremerton
