Dani Gray - Gray Skies Painting
Bremerton friends! Meet Artist Dani Gray!
Q: What inspires you about Bremerton?
A: The people. I moved here and settled in just before the pandemic hit and I struggled to feel rooted in my new community at first, but the people that I have met- even digitally- have been incredibly warm and supportive. Over this last year in isolation, I have slowly built support structures and friendships that I believe will last a lifetime. I was inspired by the engagement of the art community here in helping save businesses all over Bremerton (i.e. Bremer Bonds and Brem Built shout out to @fingersduke).
Q: What drew you to your medium?
A: My favorite tends to shift, mostly between oils and watercolors, but I like to try new things. The challenge and exploration are what is important, these things help us to grow as artists and people. Nothing ever grows in a comfort zone. 😊 I enjoy working with fiber, collage, encaustic and acrylic as well.
Q: What is your favorite local spot?
A: There are so many, and I feel like that list is growing all the time. Ballast Books, Ashley’s Pub, Kitsap Food Co-Op, Khao Soi, Remedy, The Weekender… We have such a vibrant community full of unique businesses run by equally impressive, determined entrepreneurs.
Q: Where do you find inspiration?
A: All around me. The Pacific Northwest is one of the most beautiful locations on Earth. I am so lucky to live in such an amazing place. I find most inspiration from the sea, our craggy beaches, our dramatic skies- I love the drama of a gray day, the unknowable weight of those clouds as they seem to roll on forever. Blue skies are lovely, but they hold no mystery.
Q: What does your perfect First Friday look like?
A: My perfect First Friday is a hum of excitement with many open businesses who are hosting local artists and the community out in force to shop, enjoy themselves and show support.
Q: Where can we find more of your art?
A: You can find my art at @cvgbremerton in downtown Bremerton where I will be the featured artist in August and on IG @grayskies.painting
