What inspires you about Bremerton?
I've lived in Bremerton now for over 30 years. It's a wonderful place to make art. I am inspired by all the energy here, and thanks to Wayzgoose, the new bonds I am forming with fellow printmakers. I started as a founding member of Collective Visions when it was called the Washington Avenue Art Gallery and located on the waterfront in 1995. The idea was formed for First Friday because our members were having solo shows but they were randomly scheduled. A First Friday, like Seattle's First Thursday, was a way to get everyone in the loop and get downtown for art walk. Just look at it now, emerging artists, shops and galleries have made it into a great monthly event! It's getting better all the time.
What drew you to your medium?
I started with the collagraph, which was taught at Olympic College, where I took my first printmaking class. The collagraph has a lovely sculptural quality to plate-making. Building the plates is half the fun. There are so many ways to make prints, so many processes. I love the surprise of printmaking when I "pull" a print off the press. There is always intention, but the work evolves as I go, and that part is such fun.
Where do you find inspiration?
I find inspiration everywhere! Artists are storytellers. I once made a print based on my experience traveling on the ferry to school. I was studying art history at the time so the history was woven into the print. Ancient Romans drinking Starbucks and riding the ferry with me.
Where can we see your work? You will find on of my pieces of art on the Chimacum Ferry and can follow me at @thebaddogstudio on Instagram. I am a member of the WestSound Printmakers, you an see my prints our group shows.
